CT Company History

In 1892, CT — then CT Corporation — opened its doors for business. According to its original, handwritten charter, the company's mission was "to carry on a general agency business, especially the acting as agent of and trustee for corporations."

CT's first office opened in Jersey City, NJ, with 44 employees. Today, CT has more than 1,500 employees in 43 cities nationwide.

CT, based in New York City, is a Wolters Kluwer Company. Wolters Kluwer is a leading multinational publisher and information services company based in Amsterdam with operations across North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific. CT is part of Wolters Kluwer Corporate Legal Services.

1892
The Corporation Trust Company of New Jersey is organized.
1895
CT becomes the first company to assist lawyers with the details of incorporating and qualifying corporations in all states and territories.
1899
CT's first New York office opens.
1955
CT exceeds 75,000 units of statutory representation (domestic and foreign units).
1970
CT begins providing a computerized law office management system to attorneys via its new subsidiary, CT Law Technology, Inc.
1974
CT exceeds 250,000 units of statutory representation (domestic and foreign units).
1983
CT acquires Trademark Service Corporation, subsequently named CCH Corsearch.
1992
CT introduces CTAdvantage, a software package for legal professionals that incorporates information resources, electronic filing preparation, online access to public records and document ordering.
1995
CT Corporation and CCH are acquired by Wolters Kluwer, a multi-national information services company based in the Netherlands with operations in 26 countries. CT becomes a sister company of CCH within the Wolters Kluwer organization.
1995
CT Corporation launches CTAdvantage.com, a suite of Web-based tools for completing business entity filing and searching projects, and managing representation and company records.
2002
CT Corporation launches hCue, a Web-based corporate governance workspace for corporate secretaries.
2003
CT acquires a portfolio of EDGAR products and services as well as a suite of equity compliance products from sister company CCH. EDGAR Ease +, EDGAR Ease PPT->HTML, EDGAR123.com, EDGAR Service Bureau, and Equity Compliance join CT's suite of workflow solutions for corporate governance and SEC compliance.
2003
CT acquires TyMetrix and begins offering Web-based electronic billing and collaborative matter management applications.
2004
Wolters Kluwer acquires Summation, the leading integrated support software supplier, producers of Summation and CaseVault.
2005
CT unveils Universal Service of Process for direct access into matter management and e-billing applications.
2005
Wolters Kluwer acquires Tripoint, an innovative software development company specializing in legal industry electronic invoicing and matter management systems, to be part of CT TyMetrix.
2005
CT launches CASE File, a collaborative service of process workspace.
2006
CT announces its reorganization into four business units: Compliance & Governance, UCC Solutions, Litigation Solutions, and Trademark Solutions.
2006
TyMetrix and Tripoint officially become CT TyMetrix, part of CT's Litigation Solutions unit.
2006
Summation and CaseVault officially become CT Summation and CT Summation CaseVault, part of CT's Litigation Solutions unit.
